Robotics: The Blog of Olympic Mons

“5-4-3-2-1 LIFT OFF”. The probe was just sent to Mars. Hi my name is Elizabeth, and I work for N.A.S.A. but they don’t know it. You see I am a fly, but no ordinary fly I have magical powers. I have laser vision, super speed, and many mystical powers. I sneak around the space shuttles and try to find any unseen mistakes and try to fix them with my powers. Right now I am aboard the Viking 2 because I noticed that the wheel was clicking, while tearing up the cameras, and in great danger of breaking off. I couldn’t figure out what the problem was so I decided to go along on the trip so if anything happened I would be there to fix it. 

After what seemed like months the probe finally landed on Mars’ surface. For a while all the could be seen was rocks and dust. Because of the messed up wheel all of the programs were not working. When the Viking 2 ran into a rock it didn’t know how to back up and go somewhere else (maybe it did it just wasn’t working out well). After a lumpy ride we came up a humongous hill. Soon after I realized that that hill happened to be the largest volcano in the solar system, Olympus Mons. It was incredible. I had never seen anything bigger in my life. Luckily this time when the probe tried to go up it came back down and went the other direction. We came upon a cliff. At first I didn’t see anything but after some dust blew away there in front of my was an entire civilization. At first it didn’t make any sense, but after a while I realized I was looking at the first ever discovered, first know to man kind alien civilization.

The viking slowly but surely wen down the side of the steep hill. Once it was at the bottom I saw some of the weirdest looking things I had ever seen. I saw aliens. ALIENS! They looked like huge fish with arms and legs. When they saw the probe it seemed like to them it was nothing out of the ordinary. obviously they have advanced technology that we have yet to discover. Another probe named Secret looked at the Viking 2 and said in some robot language I am an Earth made robot also. the Viking replied, “How is that possible”. 

“Back in the late 1950s a spacecraft landed on Earth and is now kept in area 51. The scientists hacked into the homing device and sent me to this location called M-A-R-S. After I discovered this land I decided to stay here forever. They took me in as their own”. 

“ The earthling will be so happy to know there is another civilization”. “NO. You cannot tell them”. 

“Why?”

 “If they find out they will come to us and disturb our peace. If you don’t tell them we will give you all the water you need to last for millions of years.”

 I jumped into the conversation, “We accept your deal I will personally delete your photos to never be seen again”. 

“Thank you”. 

The Viking 2 is now on its way back to Earth. When we arrived I talked to my creator, scientists James Isaac Neutron. I told him about the deal so when all is lost and we run out of water the aliens will give their water over to us. In the year 5286, sooner than we thought, the earth ran out of water.  Neutron had a probe with an extremely large tank went to mars and retrieved enough water to last for a while. After his numerous trips we were convinced that we would never run out of water…ever.

Hello Carson speaking Olympus Mons has just discovered that there is oil on Mars. Everyone is wondering now, what is the world going to be like. If Olympus Mons has really just caught on camera that there was oil on mars then humans would try to get to Mars as fast as they could and we would have an unlimited amount of oil. There would also be alot of oil diggers that wouldn’t have to work anymore and gas would not be as expensive It could go down to ninety-nine cents for every gallon of oil.

People in the world might also be able to afford a car because gas wouldn’t be as expensive. It would be amazing if oil was really discovered on mars. I hope that Olympus Mons really discovered oil  it will be amazing if its really been disscovered. As you can see there has been what loks like oil on mars. Olympus Mons is a hero. It discovered oil when it fell in a crater when looking for specimins to bring back to earth. It seems now that it is trying to get a sample of what seems like oil.

The trick to doing the 4 meters was first to guess and then based on your first discoveries create a hypothesis to double the amount  until you reach the four meters.

When doing the circle my group had the right amount of power, but it didn’t turn enough so it didn’t hit all of the lines. We increased the turning and the next time it was missing some of the lines so we lined it up correctly. The next time we ended up getting it. The circle was a very challenging thing to figure out how to make it turn, but it became easier once we figured out how it worked.

Hypothesis: If the robot is programed to go 9 seconds and a power of 98 then the robot should be close because we programed it to turn the whole time

At first doing the circle was very hard because we couldn’t figure out how to make it turn. We finally got it to turn and the third try we got the circle but it went inside. We had to change the starting angle, and it worked.

Olympus Mons is three times taller than Mount Everest. It would completely cover the state of Colorado.

The circle was a more difficult then the 4 meter line. Sometimes it would go to far and other times it will not go far enough. One thing that was also challenging was that sometimes it would stay on the circle. We are moving on to the maze so I will write soon!
