You might also explore Comic Life. I have not used Comic Life or ToonDo yet, but I know many people love Comic Life for its ease of use.

Marc,

Unless a student is 13 years old, they cannot be part of a Ning network. We would love to use Ning in the middle school, but it would be limited to 8th grade students who must all be at least 13.

Marc- I agree that there are lots of ways to use Flickr in our language classes. I am also in total agreement about the amount of time it will take to find and select appropriate pictures. I suppose that once this time is invested, you could reuse the pictures from year to year, assuming you teach the exact same lesson from year to year.

I'm glad you found the article interesting. I think ten years from now, phone/PDA devices will be as ubiquitous in most schools as notebooks (the paper kind, not the laptop kind, but those will probably be around, too). By that time, of course, we'll be debating the next educational gadget.

Marc- You definitely model lifelong learning for other teachers. I agree that the time necessary to play with these new technologies is key for our success in implementing them. I tend to find something in the lab that I'm comfortable with and then stick with it, rather than devote the time to mastering something else.
