Thing 7a

For the past two years, I have loved the blog Six in the World! Since the family of six have completed their around he world journey,  they don’t post as regularly as they used to.  Now I don’t have to check their website periodically to see if they’ve added anything new!  My Goggle reader does that for me!

Setting up the google reader is fairly easy.  Currently, I have 7 feeds into my reader.  The educational blogs that I found interesting are http://www.halcyon.com/arborhts/mahlness/2009/05/believe.html (Oh well, now I can’t get the permalink to work. I’ll get back to that video in a few minutes.)  Two blogs I particularly liked were Mark’s Edtechblog and Mrs. Hossack’s First Grade Blog. In Mark’s blog, he has been keeping count of the posts from his third graders.  In 2005-2006, there were 340 posts and in 2006-2007 there were 711 posts. He is hoping to exceed the amount this year. He has noticed that student posts are getting shorter and his students have less time to spend on writing.  He has an interesting discussion on the new Writer’s Workshop. (By the way, as you can see I got my permalinks to work by remembering that the text in the post must be highlighted to get the link icon to appear).

The other links are to two international schools that I am hoping will blog with my class next year.  We will see.  It doesn’t appear that they are doing any blogging now.  I especially like the links to all of the global classrooms that are already blogging. Maybe we should communicate with them next year.  I’ll add more later after I read my colleagues’ posts.

I’m so impressed that you’ve gotten so far in your 23 things journey. I’m starting to pick up speed now that I have time. Am anxious to check out your video links on one of your other posts when I have a moment (and am caught up to the proper week with my 23 things!!). I’ve had an RSS all year and keep adding sites to it. I’ve found it to be almost life changing and exciting – especially since I’m always so forgetful – helps me to remember to stay in touch with some stuff. Am going to check on some of the ones on your feeder.

Hi! Thanks for the link to the global classrooms–WHAT A LIST!!!!!

When you say you are hoping to blog with international schools next year, what do you mean? How do you think that will work in your classroom? I’m fishing for ideas…

    Thanks!

    Hi Ellen,

I found the global classrooms link by going to Thing 6 and looking for the item that says Support Blogging! Links to School Bloggers. Good luck Ellen, and again, it was a great class you gave about the Smartboard!
