“Let Me In the Sound” -U2

Finally! U2 is releasing its new CD on March 5th! Millions of people got to see the boys from Dublin perform the cd’s first released song, “Get On Your Boots”, on the 2009 Grammy Awards–they opened the show! I have been a huge U2 fan for years, and I never miss them perform live while they are on tour. Actually, I make a point to see them more than just once each tour. There is nothing like seeing your favorite music performed live.

Much like my other favorite bands–REM, Cold Play, Counting Crows, Bon Jovi–when new music is released, I do my best to figure out the “true meaning” of the lyrics of their songs. The best songs have lyrics that mean different things to different listeners. Song lyrics are like poetry in this way. To some, poems are “puzzles” that need to be pieced together to find meaning. Because the members of U2 are all such spiritual humanitarians, I know the message in their lyrics will be soulful, timely, and global.

So here we go again…When the CD hits in March, I, along with millions of other U2 fans, will have more than a dozen new puzzles to decode. Now, here’s my challenge to YOU…

What do you think U2 is saying with its song, “Get On Your Boots”? Listen to the song and let me know what you think the lyrics mean.

“Get on Your Boots”by U2

Future needs a big kiss
Winds blow with a twist
Never seen a move like this
Can you see it too
Night is falling everywhere
Rockets hit the funfair
Satan loves a bomb scare
But it won’t scare you

Hey…Sexy Boots
Get on your Boots
Yeah…

Free me from the dark dream
Candy bars, ice cream
All the kids are screaming but the ghosts arent real
Heres what you gotta be
Love & community
Laughter is eternity if the joy is real

You dont know how beautiful
You dont know how beautiful
You are…
You dont know
You get it do you
You dont know
How beautiful you are…

If someones into blowing up
Were into growing up
Women are the future
All the big revelations
Ive gotta submarine
Youve got gasoline
I dont wanna talk about wars between nations
Not right now

Sexy Boots
Get on your Boots
Yeah…
Foxy boots

You dont know how beautiful
You dont know how beautiful
You are…

Sexy Boots
I dont wanna talk about wars

Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound
My God Im going down
I dont wanna drown now
Let me in the sound

Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound

Get on your Boots
Get on your Boots
Yeah…

  1. umm….. haha idk they were like sexy boots and get on your boots so im guessing they were talking about someone and like what they think about that person.

  2. Amen Bono ! Let me in the sound !

  3. I think the whole idea is cooperation. One of the lines said, “I got a submarine and you got gasoline”. I think that this means that if you put those two together then you have a running submarine. So the whole meaning of this is that if you work together then you will be more successful. Ya I love U2 also. Bono’s a hoss.

  4. Eddie, you have GREAT taste in music! That’s an interesting interpretation, and you are right about Bono–he is so much more than just a guy in an awesome band. His humanitarian work is inspiring! Thanks for your thoughts on the new lyrics.

  5. Wow ya’ll get into it. Know offense to Miss Williams and eddie but I think U2 is over rated and annoying. I’m more of a James Taylor kinda guy. But stay at it liking U2 , I just don’t have taste in music towards intense rock.

  7. Bear,
There should be room in your music heart for both James Taylor AND U2. In honor of your good taste, I will play “Beautiful Day” tomorrow in class! You get “brownie points” for commenting on my blog! :-)

PS–Watch your typing when writing comments (caps., spelling, etc.)

  8. Hahah ok.

  9. One of my favorite lines from the new single:

    Women are the future!

Love & Peace to Bono and the boys!

  10. Ya I think Sunday Bloody Sunday is pretty good also.

  11. Sorry Miss Williams but I really really didn’t like that song! I hated the beat and just thought it was annoying. Their other songs are sooooooo much better. Although I don’t really listen to it, just my family member do. Sorry. But its cool that you like them.
