There it goes, Deimos is off into space and soon we will hear about it being on Mars. We, my team, have designed Deimos to fly to Deimos and Take pictures of if real or not, aleins. We have heard that there are aleins on Mars and we wanted to get a glimpse of them. Deimos was very hard to program so that it would take pictures of them but not get too close so that they would not destroy it. Deimos is designed to dodge unmoving objects and stop and photograph moving ones. This would happen by using sensors to detect the objects.

Finally Deimos is on Mars and trying to take pictures of aleins. No luck yet, but we hope we will receive some pictures by tomorrow. The next day we woke up in the morning and saw that Deimos had gotten five pictures of real live aleins. “Wow!” we exclaimed, aleins we’ve found aleins. We were all amazed at what was happening, history in the making we all thought. Now all we had to do was bring the rover home. Unfortunatley that was going to be a problem. Many pictures were showing up and the aleins were getting closer to the rover. We told the robot to at least try to make it to Phobos, a moon of mars. Luckily he did and now Deimos is on his way back to earth right now. Now scientists are wondering if aleins can survive on Mars, can we?

“Deimos has landed” someone yelled. Everyone burst out in happiness. The rover we had been building for a few months was now on Mars. It was so exctiting. Now we wanted to see what we made in action and see what it could find. Our robot Diemos was solar powered so some days it can’t run if the sunlight doesn’t reflect off its solar panels. The first day was perfect weather.  We can’t control Deimos now that it is on Mars.  It just has sensors to navigate itself around Mars.

Deimos’s mission on Mars was to find water.  Many other rovers have tried this but failed.  We are hoping that Diemos can find some water.  Deimos first day was great but no water. The second day was going great until a huge storm hit Deimos’s position. Deimos was out for an entire 4 months until sunlight came and he was back running. For the next three months, there was no sign of water. Then it happened, Deimos was coming up to a huge gorge. When Deimos came to the edge, it’s camera looked down in the gorge and saw an enormous river. This was spectacular. No other rover had ever found anything like this. Deimos’s mission was complete.

5. 4. 3. 2. 1. Blast Off! We were are our way to Mars to investigate and see what my team could research. My team is made up of Honcho, our driver, Mark the guy who fixes stuff, and of course me the guy who does nothing but fix food. So as I was saying we were heading to Mars to try to find out if their are life forms on the planet or not. We were about to arrive when suddenly out of nowhere a meteor shower comes and hits us. our left wheel was knocked of so we were basically stranded on Mars with nowhere to travel. suddenly I had an idea. We could program my Science robot to search around and try to find some life forms. We sent it out with high hopes that it would bring back information. I also attached a camera to the top of the robot so that my team could get a good look at what was going on. We watched for about 30 minuets before we found some good information. We saw in the distance a few things moving around because the craft was so small it was able to move right on up to the creature which looked kinda like a astronaut but, I was not sure. We thought that this was great but as soon as the creature saw the robot it picked it up and took it to it’s ship where we thought we would never see it. After the we decided to just go home because we had already found life froms. So we traveled back home. Finally we made it home and looked over the tape and saw that on the creatures shirt the was a U.S.A sign. I instantly knew that the creature that we thought was the alien was really another astraunaut. I decided that I would head out to try and find my robot. THE END

Deimos on Mars

9th February - Submitted by seblovett15

It was Monday and Sputnik 23 had just taken off. In the space shuttle were four astronauts and a robot, Abby, Steffi, Mirabel, Maddie, and the robot, Deimos. “When we get to Mars,” said Maddie, “we’ll program Deimos to collect information on the surface.”

Abby said, “Yes, hopefully we will get some important information.”

The group was definitely in space now and Steffi looked back to see Earth behind her. There was a sudden shake but no one really seemed to notice since there was no gravity. Deimos was being charged in the corner but now the plug had come undone. Mirabel did notice this but Maddie distracted her. “Look! Wow, is that Venus?”

Mirabel became wide-eyed and stared out the window. She screamed and ran to the captain’s seat. As she took charge, she had been very forgetful about Deimos. Luckily, Mirabel’s intelligence kicked in and she was able to turn around. Now Sputnik 23 was finally headed towards Mars.

It was a long time later and Steffi woke up from her sleep and saw a giant red planet. She knew it had to be Mars. Abby also woke up and looked at Deimos’s battery. It was very low and so she plugged it in and hoped it would have enough power. Sputnik 23 landed on Mars safely and the crew got out with Deimos. Maddie yelled to Steffi, “Program Deimos so we can get on with this!”

Steffi put Deimos down on the surface and entered program “hopeful” into it. She did not realize the low battery. Steffi pushed “run” and Deimos went on searching Mars. Five hours later, Deimos hadn’t come back and Sputnik 23 crew began to worry. Abby and Maddie went out on a short search. They came back an hour later with Deimos in their arms and lots of information. Deimos had run out of battery but just in time because he now had very important pieces of information. Sputnik 23 returned to NASA and shared their information.

Imaginative Story

6th February - Submitted by ckjlovett15

“Oh no!” I screamed, “Take us down, land us on that moon!” We had to land somewhere before the asteroids in the asteroid belt crushed our ship. We had just made it past Mars, and that’s when the trouble began. we ran into the asteroid belt! Our ship turned around quickly and ran the other way. An asteroid was coming our way, and a big one if I might say. “Land their, where ever that is!” I screamed. Something hit the back of our ship, the asteroid! We needed to make a quick landing, but the moon was moving quite fast. It was a moon of Mars, and it was really small. All of the sudden, it hit me! The moon was Deimos! We had to land there, it was our only chance. “Easy,” I told the pilot. Finally, we landed. We were safe! Now all there was left to do was make contact with Earth. “We have a problem,” said the pilot,”Our communication system was knocked out, but I can fix it,” he said. “WHAT! that could take days!”I yelled. “Actually, it will only take a few hours,” he said. I managed to cool down a little, but it was hard not to freak out.

After about thirty minutes, I decided to go explore Mars. I love the technology of 2045, all I have to do to get down to Mars is attach a device to the moon and my belt, then all I have to do is jump off the moon, and it will guide me down. Once I got down to Mars, I looked up. Deimos and Phobos looked tiny. I started looking around. All of the sudden, I saw an amazing sight. It was Spirit, the rover sent here a long time ago. It shut off in 2035, and no one came to get it. I looked at it, and I noticed that it didn’t break down, it was turned off by something. The aliens! I knew it, the aliens never wanted us on their planet. In 2016, we finally discovered them. They were mad and turned off the rover. Sadly, no one comes to Mars to get it because they are afraid of the aliens. Oh my gosh, I think that one is trying to approach me! I quickly turned on Spirit and ran. I heard footsteps behind me, I ran harder. I felt my belt, no device! I have to go back. I turn around and look and right there is an alien. He was holding my device. I wondered what he would do next.

Randomly, he gave it to me and hugged me. I didn’t understand. Maybe, just maybe, there is more to aliens than we think. Just maybe.

We Have a Mission! {#4}

6th February - Submitted by aeblovett15

Hi, I am astronaut Abby and I am working on a crisis. There are aliens on Mars! I have to send a rover up there to investigate the scene. The aliens are as big as Whale Sharks and as ugly as a hairless Gerbil. I have already sent a test robot up there, but it was destroyed by an extraterrestrial. It is incredibly hard to be a scientist. The maze assignment skills I have gained are helpful in creating just the right program. Oh, I know whats wrong. If I change the power to 50 and the duration to 15, then the rover will go through the maze of explosives, because the test robots have been going to fast on the sharp turns. Send. The rover is programmed to go around each obsticle. The rover will be sent into space and to Mars today at 5:00pm. The rover is going to be called Deimos, because that is the name of one of Mars’ two moons. May NASA be with you Deimos!

It is 5:00 and the crew and I are ready to send Deimos to Mars. 5…4…3…2…1…blast off! He is going to Mars! An hour later we have information. He sent us back incredible pictures. Oh, no! The pictures are going all blurry. What’s going on up there? We decided to send phobos up to investigate. HE sent us pictures indicating that Deimos was captured by the aliens. What should we do?

We are going to have to go and investigate ourselves. We are finally in Mars. The aliens are running at us like we’re dinner. “We come in peace”, I said. “Robot is ours. Please return him”, says Steffi. They do. Deimos is completely unharmed and has great information.

He also managed to take photos of the aliens. Wow! Now, we have proof that there are aliens on Mars. And if you don’t believe me go see for yourself!

Circle Jack G

4th February - Submitted by jmglovett15

To do the circle it was much like the 4 meters but you had to add a variable which is turning. At first turning was hard to find on the mindstorm robotics. But eventually we found it and if we found out how to line it up just right we could do it. First we took a random guess and did 50 power at a 45 degree angle for 20 seconds. This went way past the marker. The variable that we changed was the seconds to 15. This was close but not quite their. Then we added one more second so that it would get closer and it was dead on.

4 Meters Jack G

4th February - Submitted by jmglovett15

The 4 meters was kinda hard because it was the first time I had ever used robotics mindstorm. On our first try we did something random that I don’t even remember. My partner and I tried it out and we made it to about 3 meters. So we decided to change the variable of seconds to 5 more. This was just over the line. So the variable that we would change now is minusing 1 second. Our next try was dead on.

The circle challenge was very hard. It was similair to the 4 meter challenge but added one more variable, turn. The first hypothesis was If the robot runs with 75 power  and 15 seconds then it will go in a circle because this is the best guess. This one variable made the challenge much harder then the first. In this challenge it was very important to only change one variable at a time because other wise it would screw everything up.The final hypothesis was f the robot runs with 60 power  and 18 seconds then it will go in an circle in a  because the info we have gathered so far leads us to these numbers.
